In the by-election that took place yesterday (Thurs) in Millwall, Respect’s candidate Paul McGarr came from nowhere to push Labour into 3^rd Place.  Respect supporters last night were jubilant at the result.

Paul said “ On the elections on June 10^th, Millwall was one of the worst results in East London.  Out of 17 wards in which we stood it ranked 15^th and we finished a poor 4^th behind the Liberals, Labour and Tories.   This means that we have a good chance of taking these seats in the General Election.”

He went on to say “ I would urge people to now get up to Hartlepool to help them with their campaign.  Respect has a really good chance of getting a good vote there.”

Results are as follows

Labour                           571       (24%)

Independent                   195       (8%)

Lib Dems                       150       (6%)
