at the Scottish Socialist Party's annual conference have elected Colin Fox as
the party's new national convenor.
The MSP for the Lothians defeated rival candidate Alan McCombes
by 252 votes to 154, and succeeds Tommy Sheridan MSP who resigned from the post
Looking to the future, Fox said: "The party will unite and focus
on regaining the confidence of the 130,000 people who voted for us in the 2003
"We will haunt new Labour on their record on the war in Iraq -
and we will haunt the SNP. We are passionate about independence and both parties
seem to have lost their passion."
Sheridan, who had backed Fox's campaign, said he hoped that the
SSP "will now get back to what it is good at, which is fighting the Tories,
fighting capitalism, fighting wars, instead of having internal squabbles."
