Dungavel
Dave Renton
It just won't work without context:
The long march of peoples halted,
So many attempts to steal the land,
A new class of people, potential unknown
Tapped unscrupulously
By promises of welfare for some.
It just won't work without context:
Wars in the South, white guns and
Black hands to hold them. Homes burned, then here.
A mother with her children taken,
Why? Because she dared to nurse them.
Outside feeding hours.
It just won't work without context:
The crowd vast, angry, chatting
The scornful arc of a cereal bar
Flying singly over prison walls.
