Half a million march against Bush
Jim Jepps

An astonishing half a million Americans have marched
against George W. Bush's republican convention.

This enormous demonstration that culminated in Central
Park (which the authorities had previously attempted to ban marchers
from entering) was a powerful demonstration that not only are Americans
not all lovers of the war - they have a willingness to get up and say so
too.
The
day was in general peaceful although New York Police commissioner stated
that there had been 200 arrests, although it was unclear on what
charges.
It has also emerged that the secret services had attempted to
subpoena NY Indy media for their records.
The
protests continued after the Sunday and there have been a number of
counter conferences bringing activists from different radical strands
together to discuss and organise what to do in the coming months before
the presidential election.
