Massive march in Rome against Bush
estimates range up to 100,000 demonstrators descended on Rome to protest
at the visit by George W. Bush.
Although the day was marred by bouts of police repression the
enormous crowd proved that the anti-war movement has not gone away in
Italy has been a key player in the pro-war alliance and, as in Spain
and the UK, has seen massive anti-war demonstrations.
The Italian public have been under sustained pressure since the
kidnapping of Italians in Iraq to bow to pressure from the right but
have refused to do so.
Bush is in
Europe for various events celebrating the Second World War and he found
himself rebuked over the war by that notorious ultra-leftist the Pope.
